Welcome to the innovation hub at St. Charles Lwanga Secondary School Kasasa, where education extends beyond the classroom and into the heart of our community. Our students are proving this every day by leading groundbreaking projects that address some of the most pressing local challenges. Guided by our dedicated ICT Club, they are harnessing technology, critical thinking, and a passion for change to spearhead initiatives in wetland restoration, clean water access, sustainable agriculture, and innovative recycling. This is more than just learning; this is about creating tangible, positive impact.
We invite you to explore their work and witness how these young leaders are building a more sustainable and prosperous future for everyone.

Wetland Restoration & Tree-Planting Movement (“Green Lwera”)
The “Green Lwera” movement is more than just tree planting—it’s a student-led crusade to restore the lungs of Masaka. Armed with ICT skills, our students create a digital record system to track every tree planted, its growth journey, and the hectares of wetland reclaimed.
We use drones and GPS mapping apps to scan degraded areas and showcase progress through interactive maps on our website. Each tree has a story, each map tells a journey, and each click on our platform reveals a brighter future.

Clean Water & Sanitation Innovation
Water is life, yet safe water remains out of reach for many in Masaka. Our ICT Club steps in with the “Safe Water Awareness Project,” blending science, creativity, and technology.
- We distribute affordable water-testing kits and publish results online, giving families real-time confidence in their drinking water.
- We design low-cost filters using local materials—sand, charcoal, and gravel—that anyone can replicate at home.
- We create short, relatable video tutorials in Luganda and English, spreading knowledge through WhatsApp groups and our website to ensure the message reaches even the most rural homes.
👉 For us, clean water is not just a need—it is a human right, and our project ensures every child, every farmer, and every family drinks safely.

Waste to Wealth Recycling Project
What others see as rubbish, we see as opportunity. Our Waste to Wealth Recycling Project transforms school compounds and trading centers into models of green innovation.
- We set up collection points for plastics and organic waste, ensuring the community disposes responsibly.
- With ICT tools, we build a digital registry that records households and businesses that bring waste, giving recognition to every eco-champion.
- We track waste data—how much is recycled, composted, or sold—and publish inspiring success stories online to spark even more participation.
Plastics are sold to recyclers, generating income, while organic waste is converted into fertile manure that boosts food production.
👉 For us, waste is no longer a problem—it is a pathway to jobs, clean surroundings, and a sustainable future.

Sustainable Agriculture & Eco-Business Hub
Farming is our backbone—but farming the old way exhausts the soil and drains the land. Our Sustainable Agriculture & Eco-Business Hub connects tradition with innovation.
- We train farmers on organic farming—using compost and animal manure to enrich the soil instead of harmful chemicals.
- We encourage crop rotation to preserve nutrients and increase yields.
- We turn agricultural waste like rice husks into charcoal briquettes, reducing deforestation and offering clean cooking alternatives.
Through ICT, we build a digital marketplace where farmers advertise and sell eco-products like fresh vegetables, organic fertilizers, and briquettes. With one click, a farmer can reach a wider market, and with one visit, a buyer can support green business.
👉 This hub is where eco-preneurship is born—a space where young innovators and local farmers unite to fight poverty and climate change at the same time.
